Internship and Teaching Experience

Co-Instructor:  Designed goals, syllabus, and activities for a sophomore level course titled The Power of Oppressive Language in the U.S.  Co-facilitated and lead discussion on controversial and difficult topics including race, gender, and class.  Graded assigned work and reported grades of seventeen students (spring 2004).

Ivy Tech State College Intern:  Involvement and direct contact with students in admissions, financial aid, career services, records, personal intervention, academic advising, and registrar’s office.  Learned about the vibrant and exceptional atmosphere of community colleges and the students they serve (spring 2004).

Practicum in College Sex Education: Leader of weekly group discussion of twelve to sixteen people for a three-credit sophomore level Human Sexuality course.  Facilitated discussion, graded assignments, and reported grades (spring 2001, fall 2003).

Indiana University Upward Bound Project Intern:  Communicated with first-generation and/or low-income high school students, spoke about college life at Saturday distance learning session, handled administrative tasks such as processing applications, and learned about the unique student population Upward Bound serves  (spring 2003).

Peer Instructor:  Leader of one-credit sophomore level course of seventeen people at the Briscoe Wellness Center (Thematic Community).  Created lesson plans and syllabus, assigned and graded homework, implemented activities, led discussion, and reported grades (fall 1999).
